Foundational Pillars

The Five Pillars of Islam (أركان الإسلام)

Narrated by Ibn Umar (RA): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Islam is built upon five pillars..." [Sahih al-Bukhari 8, Sahih Muslim 16].

١

1. Shahadah (Declaration of Faith)

"I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

7 Conditions of the Shahadah: Knowledge (*Ilm*), Certainty (*Yaqeen*), Sincerity (*Ikhlas*), Truthfulness (*Sidq*), Love (*Mahabbah*), Submission (*Inqiyad*), and Acceptance (*Qubool*).
٢

2. Salah (The 5 Daily Prayers)

The direct spiritual lifeline between the slave and the Creator, performed five times daily: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. It purifies the soul, protects against indecency and evil, and is the first deed questioned on the Day of Judgment.

٣

3. Zakat (Obligatory Charity)

A 2.5% annual purification on qualifying wealth held for one full lunar year above the Nisab threshold (Gold: 87.48g, Silver: 612.36g). Distributed strictly to the eight Quranic categories ordained in Surah At-Tawbah 9:60.

٤

4. Sawm (Fasting Ramadan)

Abstaining from food, drink, and intimacy from dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib) with conscious intention for the entire 9th month of the Hijri calendar, fostering Taqwa (God-consciousness), gratitude, and empathy for the needy.

٥

5. Hajj (The Sacred Pilgrimage to Makkah)

The once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to the Holy Kaaba in Makkah al-Mukarramah during the month of Dhul-Hijjah for every Muslim who is physically and financially able. The rites of Hajj commemorate the monotheistic legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), his wife Hajar, and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

1. Ihram: Sacred state of intention and simple garments.
2. Tawaf: 7 circuits around the Kaaba.
3. Sa'i: Walking 7 times between Safa and Marwah.
4. Arafah: Standing in supplication on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah (The heart of Hajj).
Articles of Faith

The Six Articles of Iman (أركان الإيمان)

From the famous Hadith of Jibreel (AS) narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) [Sahih Muslim 8].

✨ 1. Belief in Allah (الإيمان بالله)

Affirming Allah's absolute oneness (Tawheed): Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah (Lordship and Creator of all), Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah (Worship belongs solely to Him), and Tawheed al-Asma was-Sifat (His Beautiful Names and Perfect Attributes without denial, distortion, or comparison).

🕊️ 2. Belief in the Angels (الإيمان بالملائكة)

Belief in the noble beings created from light who never disobey Allah: Jibreel (revelation), Mika'eel (provision and rain), Israfeel (blowing the Trumpet), Malak al-Mawt (taking souls), and the guardian recording angels (Kiraman Katibin).

📜 3. Belief in the Divine Scriptures (الإيمان بالكتب)

Belief in all original revelations sent to the messengers: the Suhuf of Ibrahim, the Tawrat of Musa, the Zabur of Dawud, the Injeel of Isa, and the Holy Qur'an—the final, unaltered, and preserved Word of Allah revealed to Muhammad ﷺ.

👑 4. Belief in the Prophets & Messengers (الإيمان بالرسل)

Belief in all human messengers chosen by Allah from Adam (AS) to Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, Isa, culminating in the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad ﷺ. We make no distinction between them in terms of their divine mission of monotheism.

⏳ 5. Belief in the Last Day

Belief in the Day of Resurrection (Yawm al-Qiyamah), the trial of the grave (Barzakh), the physical resurrection, the divine reckoning (Hisab), the weighing of deeds (Mizan), the Bridge (Sirat), and the eternal abodes of Paradise (Jannah) and Hellfire (Jahannam).

⚖️ 6. Belief in Divine Decree (الإيمان بالقدر)

Belief that everything good or seemingly adverse occurs by Allah's divine decree (Al-Qadr), encompassing four levels: Allah's eternal Knowledge (*Ilm*), Recording in the Preserved Tablet (*Kitabah*), Divine Will (*Mashi'ah*), and Creation of all deeds (*Khalq*).

Fiqh of Purification

Taharah & Step-by-Step Sunnah Ablution (الوضوء)

"O you who have believed, when you rise to [pray] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles..." [Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:6].

1 Niyyah & Bismillah

Make the intention in your heart to purify yourself for Allah, then say بِسْمِ اللَّهِ (Bismillah).

2 Wash Hands (3 Times)

Wash both hands up to the wrists thoroughly three times, making sure to clean between the fingers.

3 Rinse Mouth & Snuff Water (3x)

Rinse the mouth (*Madmadah*) and inhale water into the nostrils (*Istinshaq*) with the right hand, then blow it out with the left hand.

4 Wash Entire Face (3x)

Wash the face from the hairline to the chin, and from ear to ear three times, running wet fingers through a thick beard.

5 Wash Arms to Elbows (3x)

Wash the right arm completely from the fingertips up to and including the elbow 3 times, then do the same for the left arm.

6 Wipe Head & Ears (Once)

Wipe wet hands from the front of the head to the nape of the neck and back to the front once, then wipe the inside and back of the ears.

7 Wash Feet to Ankles (3x)

Wash the right foot up to and including the ankles 3 times, cleaning between the toes, then do the same for the left foot.

8 Sunnah Post-Wudu Du'a

"Whoever says this, all eight gates of Paradise are opened for him." [Sahih Muslim 234].

What Nullifies Wudu (نواقض الوضوء):

1. Any emission from the two private passages (urine, stool, gas, blood, or discharge).
2. Deep sleep where awareness is completely lost.
3. Loss of consciousness (fainting, intoxication, anesthesia).
4. Direct skin-to-skin touching of the private parts with desire (according to majority schools).
5. Eating camel meat (according to the Hanbali school based on explicit Sahih hadith).

Sayyid al-Istighfar (The Master Supplication for Forgiveness) Sahih al-Bukhari 6306
